PRESURE SORE REPAIR
Pressure sores usually result from an inability
to adjust
one’s own position
in bed or a chair. Patients with spinal chord injury are most likely to develop
pressure sores. Surgical repair involves wound cleaning followed by rotation
flaps of healthy tissue to cover the open area. This is usually performed under
general anesthesia, and patients are in the hospital 5-10 days afterwards. Strict
wound care and pressure relief are extremely important after surgery, and often
require 4-6 weeks of bedrest.
