BREAST RECONSTRUCTION
Breast reconstruction is an option for women who are considering or have already
undergone mastectomy for breast cancer. The procedure can be performed at the
same time as the mastectomy or months to years later.
There are many surgical techniques available, including using implants or the
patient’s own tissue to create the breast shape. There are significant
differences in the procedures regarding recovery time, placement of scars,
and expected cosmetic result. Please schedule a consultation with us so we
can discuss the options with you.
The procedures are performed under general anesthesia, and patients usually
stay in the hospital from 2-5 days. Discomfort generally diminishes over 7-10
days, and we recommend avoiding strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks. Depending
on the procedure, time off of work could be from 3-8 weeks. Remaining scars
lighten over a 6-12 month period.
Please call us for more information about breast reconstruction. We'll meet
with you, discuss the procedure and help you determine your best next steps.
If you are considering any reconstructive surgery,
please schedule an examination and consultation with us. We'll discuss
the risks and benefits of the procedure with you, and help you determine
