LASER SURGERY
Procedure Description
Laser surgery is used to reduce fine wrinkles, scarring, small blood vessels,
or pigmentation. A CO2 laser is used to resurface the skin and remove fine wrinkles
or scars, and a dye laser is used to reduce the color of vascular birthmarks,
blood vessels or scars.
Good candidates for the CO2 laser have fine facial wrinkles in various areas
of the face, but the skin tone is otherwise good, and there are no deep wrinkles
or sagging. Good candidates for the dye laser have a red to purple vascular birthmark,
tiny blood vessels visible on the face, or scars.
Surgery and Recovery
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia,
and patients go home the same day. Treated areas require careful wound care to
optimize healing. It may take 7-14 days for the skin to heal. During that time
the skin may weep or crust. Once healing occurs after CO2 laser the skin may
have a pink hue for several months, like a mild sunburn, and can be covered with
makeup. Dye laser treatment of vascular birthmarks may need to be repeated several
times for improvement to be seen.
Please schedule a complimentary consultation and examination so we can discuss the risks
and benefits of this procedure and determine if laser
surgery is right for you.
Please note, any patient
considering cosmetic plastic surgery procedures should be in overall
good health and currently a non-smoker.
