CHIN ENLARGEMENT/REDUCTION (Genioplasty)
Procedure Description
Genioplasty changes the shape and size of the chin. An implant is used to add
projection and size to a recessed chin, and a prominent chin is adjusted by removing
or re-positioning bone. Chin enhancement is sometimes combined with rhinoplasty
(nose surgery) to help decrease the apparent size of the nose.
Candidates for this surgery should have a normal relationship between the upper
and lower teeth and jaws.
Surgery and Recovery
The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia or sedation and
patients go home the same day. It takes 7-14 days for the swelling and bruising
to subside.
Scars, which take 6-12 months to mature, are frequently placed inside the
lower lip, however an external scar below the chin is sometimes visible.
Please schedule a complimentary consultation and examination so we can discuss the risks
and benefits of this procedure and determine if a
chin enlargement/reduction is right for you.
Please note, any patient considering
cosmetic plastic surgery procedures should be in overall good health and
currently a non-smoker.
